The British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons (BIARGS) has taken a significant step forward in advancing robotic surgery training by partnering with Lapco to deliver its ‘Train the Trainer’ (TT) course. This initiative supports the safe integration of robotic surgery across the UK and Ireland through well-trained trainers.
As part of this collaboration, six BIARGS members completed a TT course at the ICENI Centre in Colchester. Additionally, Lapco is mentoring BIARGS faculty members — Nahid Gul, Tom Ind, and Simon Butler-Manuel — to independently deliver the course to future BIARGS trainers.
Nahid Gul commented: “BIARGS trainers and faculty have immensely benefited from the Lapco partnership to enhance gynaecological training. The principles of Lapco training, especially ‘SET, DIALOGUE & CLOSURE,’ can be applied universally, with reflection at the heart of training. This approach builds safer surgical teams and better patient outcomes.”
Thomas Ind added: “The Lapco Robotic TT course should be mandatory for all robotic trainers. It equips them with the specialised skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality training. I strongly recommend this course.”
Mastering the “how” of teaching is crucial for developing technical skills, teamwork, and clinical expertise. Lapco’s long-term teaching framework supports knowledge transfer, stakeholder management, and the broader adoption of robotic surgical technologies. Through faculty development, BIARGS aims to extend this training opportunity to all current and future trainers, ensuring excellence in robotic gynaecological surgery training.
