
Ole Sjo is working as consultant colorectal surgeon at Oslo University Hospital Ullevål, and he is head of the colorectal surgery research group at the same institution. He established LapcoNor in 2015 together with Dr. Robin Gaupset, the Norwegian branch of Lapco International UK. Up to date he is head of the LapcoNor project, which is part of the national education in gastrointestinal – colorectal surgery.
In 2012 Ole received his PhD addressing prognostic factors in colonic cancer, which has been a focused subject for his works in the following years. He has been a collaborator in the colorectal cancer translational research group of Prof. Nesbakken/Prof. Lothe at Oslo University Hospital since 2010. From 2008 he has working with advanced benign lesions and early rectal cancer in rectum practicing TEM surgery, which now is partly subject for his research.
Ole has been a member of board in the Norwegian Society for Digestive Surgery in 2012 – 2016, and chair of the society from 2016-2019. In 2019 he established the Norwegian Society for Colorectal Surgery, and was member of the board in the first steering period in 2016-2019. Improvement of laparoscopic surgery including robotic surgery has deeply influenced daily work during his whole career, working continuously to improve teaching and standardizing in surgicaltraining locally as well as nationally/internationally.
