Dr. Dort is currently the Director of Surgical Education for the Inova Health System in Falls Church, Virginia, USA, and Program Director of the Surgical Residency for the Department of Surgery at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. He is also Professor of Medical Education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Inova campus. Dr. Dort currently serves as the Chair of the Mentorship Committee and on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery. He serves as the ADOPT program chair for the Continuing Medical Education Committee, the Guidelines Committee, and is the former Chair of the Quality, Safety, and Outcomes Committee, of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), as well as serving on the SAGES Board of Directors. He is currently the Chair of the Surgical Training Workgroup of the American College of Surgeons. He is also the immediate Past President of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, as well as serving on the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons representing the Washington Metropolitan Chapter. Dr. Dort is a native of New York City. He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry at Florida Atlantic University and his medical degree from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. He completed his internship at the Naval Hospital, San Diego and his residency in surgery at the University of California, Davis – East Bay program in Oakland, California. He served in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy for 23 years.
