Lapco International is proud to announce the launch of its first online Trainer “Tips & Tricks” Course marking a major milestone in the digital evolution of surgical education and significantly expanding access to structured, high-quality surgical trainer development worldwide.
As surgical practice continues to move from laparoscopic to robotic platforms, the demands placed on surgical trainers are evolving rapidly. Teaching in technology-rich environments requires new approaches to cognitive load, communication, human–machine interaction, and objective assessment- making accessible and scalable trainer education more important than ever.
A timely moment for Train the Trainer innovation
The launch of Lapco’s online course coincides with the recent publication of the 4Ts (Train-the-Trainer in Technique and Technology) paper, a major international research collaboration defining best practice for robotic surgical faculty development. The work was led by a panel of 20 international experts, including Lapco Founders Mark Coleman and Tom Cecil, and developed using the Delphi consensus method.
The 4Ts curriculum explores how emerging technologies – such as virtual reality, telepresence, and AI-enabled performance metrics – are reshaping surgical education, highlighting the increasing importance of structured, metrics-informed approaches as robotic surgery becomes embedded across specialties.
Expanding access to high-quality training
Lapco’s new Trainer “Tips & Tricks” course kind brings the Lapco methodology into a digital format, supporting surgeons and educators to develop as trainers regardless of geography. By removing traditional barriers to access, the course enables wider participation while maintaining the educational rigour and consistency that underpin Lapco’s global programmes.
The course has already received five-star reviews from delegates, reflecting its relevance and impact. One participant commented:
I strongly believe that such training should be essential for all surgeons involved in residency education or surgical skills courses, as it directly influences not only technical competence but also confidence, motivation, and long-term professional development

Shaping the future of surgical education
Together, the launch of Lapco’s online Train the Trainer course and the publication of the 4Ts paper reflect a broader shift in surgical education towards scalable, evidence-based training models that evolve alongside advances in surgical technology.
Lapco International looks forward to continuing to support the next generation of surgical trainers through innovative, accessible education – while maintaining a clear focus on safety, performance, and patient outcomes.
