Lapco are delighted to have delivered their ‘Train the Trainer’ (Lapco TT) course to a highly engaged team of Consultant Colorectal Surgeons from NHS Tayside, Ninewells Hospital at the Surgical Skills Centre, Dundee Institute for Healthcare Simulation, University of Dundee.
Throughout the two days the delegates switched between the classroom and the skills lab taking part in a series of interactive sessions to practice their training with local medical students.
Each delegate was assessed at various points of the course using Lapco’s digital Trainer Assessment form. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in their teaching skills as the course progressed.
Course delegate, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Ken Campbell said:
“I can speak for all my colleagues without hesitation and say that we all thoroughly enjoyed the course and were enthused and invigorated by it. Despite having many years accumulated experience and interest in training we were amazed to see the objective performance improvements we all saw. We are grateful for Lapco’s time and effort on this course. and look forward to measuring programme outcomes using the Lapco Learning platform.”
Following the course, the surgical assessment platform ‘Lapco Learning’ will be used as a teaching framework and method to evaluate their programme outcomes. Training data will be collected over the course of one year to measure programme outcomes.
At Lapco, we believe that every surgical trainer should attend a TT course before engaging with their trainees followed by a structured form of assessment to improve and standardise surgical training.
